Finishing Project

You do not have a new blog due on April 12, 2009.

This post is due by 11:59 p.m. on April 19, 2009.

As you post this blog on Sunday night, you should be ready to give your client presentation on Monday, April 20. Remember that you should dress nicely this day (business casual).  In addition to our client, we will have other guests this day.  A professor from Jordan is visiting the United States to learn about technology in the classroom.  He may have questions for you after your presentation.  To prepare for this, I'd like you to use this blog to reflect on how technology helped or hindered your group as you completed this project.  For example, was your group page in Blackboard helpful?  Did you ever use email or some other electronic medium to relay important information to one another.   Did you have any virtual group meetings?

Blog topic for the week of March 29

This post is due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 5.

This week, we will discuss the importance of a having a guiding set of ethical principles when entering the workplace.  We'll identify events in history in which business was part of an ethical lapse in the business/government/social setting.

Reflect upon the examples that we have discussed.  What did you learn from this?  How would you explain your own set of ethical principles as you prepare to enter the workforce or graduate school?

Blog topic for the Week of March 23

This post is due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, March 29.

This week, I'd like you to think about an experience you have witnessed in which information was miscommunicated in the work setting.  If you have not yet had a job, you may also reflect on a miscommunication on a sports team or within any social organization.  What happened to cause the miscommunication to occur?  What was the aftermath? How might the miscommunication have been prevented?

Blog topic for the week of March 2

This blog post is due by 11:59 pm on March 8.

Last week, you posted about your three favorite presentations.  However, we did not have time to finish them all.  For this week, do two things:

1.  Blog about one more presentation (given on Monday or Wednesday, depending on snow conditions).  Talk about what you liked about this presentation and why you chose it as your favorite of the last group of presentations.

2. Blog about your past experiences with online portfolios. What programs did you use?  Was it a good experience or a bad experiences?  What do you need to know in order to ensure that you are ready for the portfolio draft due on March 23?

Blog topic for the week of Feb. 15

This blog topic is due on February 22 by 11:59 pm.

Your portfolio draft is due on March 23. So far, we have worked on your resume and your are currently doing your first presentation. You have also found a job description, which you used in the group meeting that you had in which you gave resume feedback to your team members. After the presentation, you'll want to begin writing your cover letter, if you have not already done so. Your cover letter should be geared towards the job description you used in your group meeting.

For this week's blog, visit this link - http://www.collegegrad.com/coverletters/. Read the advice that is offered about writing cover letters.Do you agree with all of the advice given here? Are the points with which you disagree?Which section of this tutorial is the most useful to you?Is there anything of which you were not aware that you plan to use when you write your cover letter for your mock interview in this class?

Blog Post for the Week of January 18

This post is due by 11:59 pm on 1/25/09.

This week, I'd like for you to begin thinking about your resume.  You'll be selecting a job description from a job search Web site like http://monster.com.  And you'll be using that job description to write a cover letter, resume, and follow up letter.

In the meantime, to select a description that is a good match for your future plans, you need to be thinking about what you want to do with your life.  Specifically, for this blog post, I'd like you to begin thinking about where you want to be in ten years.  What will your professional and personal life be like?  Where would you like to be living?  What kind of lifestyle would you like to have?

Thinking about these things will help you as you select a fitting job description for the portfolio.

This post is due on Sunday, Jan. 18, by 11:59 pm.

I am enjoying all your introductory blogs! I hope that this next topic will prompt posts that are equally interesting.

For this week, I would like for you to watch this video:

Now, I'd like you to respond. What do you think the title of the video (The Machine is Us/ing Us) means? How does Web 2.0 affect someone who is ready to enter the workforce? How does it affect people who are already in the workforce? What do you think it means when it says that we will have to rethink everything?
